Where Justice Center Detainees Go

The Wallowa County Sheriff may arrest, process, or transport a person from Enterprise or elsewhere in the county. A person can be released locally after processing, taken to the Wallowa Circuit Court, transported to Union County Correctional Facility, delivered to Oregon DOC after a prison sentence, or transferred because another agency has a warrant or detainer. The local record should identify what happened next.

A release from local control is not always a community release. If the Sheriff delivered the person to Union, the Wallowa episode ended while jail custody began in La Grande. If another sovereign took custody, the receiving agency becomes the next search route. Ask for the transport or destination field instead of relying on the fact that the Justice Center has no live roster entry.

How to Confirm a Justice Center Release

Start by contacting the Wallowa Sheriff with the complete name, approximate arrest or processing date, and known case number. Ask whether the person remained local, was released before transport, or was delivered to another facility. When Union County is named, move to its official current roster for a present-custody check and its records unit for release proof.

1. Confirm the event involved Wallowa Sheriff or another local arresting agency.
2. Ask Wallowa Sheriff for the receiving facility and transport date.
3. Search the Union County current roster if the person may still be in the regional jail.
4. If the name is absent, request the Union booking-and-release or jail-register entry rather than assuming release.
5. Check the Wallowa Circuit Court register for release orders, bail, disposition, judgment, warrants, or later set-aside activity.
6. Follow any DOC, federal, or ICE destination in that receiving agency’s official system.

The Union roster is regenerated as a current PDF and does not preserve a released-person list. Its agency column can help identify a Wallowa County or Enterprise arrest among mixed regional entries. Absence can reflect release, transfer, court movement, a data correction, or another custody event.

Wallowa Justice Center Release Records

Wallowa County may hold the arrest report, incident record, transport log, dispatch entry, local photograph, evidence record, and documentation showing when Sheriff control ended. Its public-records policy routes sufficiently specific written Level 2 requests through the County Clerk while naming the probable department. Identify the Sheriff’s Office as the likely department and describe the existing record, person, date range, and event.

The county form asks for the requester’s name, date, address, telephone number, signature, a sufficiently specific record description, and purpose. A neutral purpose such as verifying a custody and transfer history or obtaining one’s own legal record helps define the scope. The policy says an acknowledgement should issue within five business days absent extraordinary circumstances. That acknowledgement may confirm possession, seek clarification, estimate time or cost, or cite an exemption.

If estimated cost reaches $25, the county may require the full estimate as a deposit. Inspection occurs by appointment during the relevant department’s business hours. Ask that exempt parts be redacted and the rest produced. Wallowa’s request does not duplicate a Union jail request because each government created different parts of the event.

Why Wallowa Releases Use Union County

Wallowa County’s current regional arrangement is the central fact behind this facility page. Official minutes describe a jail-use agreement running from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2028. It guarantees at least six spaces for Wallowa prisoners at Union County Correctional Facility and permits as many as eight. The Justice Center address in Enterprise therefore should not be described as a conventional long-term jail with its own public roster.

County approval records also thank the Sheriff for earlier transports “over the mountain” to Umatilla. That history shows why an old directory or archived reference can identify the wrong jail. For a current Wallowa arrest during the agreement, ask where the person was physically held and use that custodian’s record.

The Sheriff’s official page confirms the Justice Center contact but does not offer a jail roster or 24-hour or 72-hour release list. The accurate release path is a Wallowa transport inquiry followed by Union jail confirmation when transport occurred. That split also determines which office can certify the release. Wallowa can document when its processing or transport control ended. Wallowa Release Property Pickup

Wallowa Sheriff has a documented evidence and safekeeping process that may matter after a local arrest, but it must not be confused with Union jail discharge property. The evidence unit says safekeeping property is held for 30 days. Property release occurs by Tuesday appointment, the owner must show photo identification, and another person needs notarized authorization.

The Wallowa Sheriff evidence page supplies the official pickup route and current instructions. This route applies only to property held as evidence or safekeeping by Wallowa Sheriff. Union County controls any inmate property returned at release from its jail.

Call before traveling because an item can have a different legal status, and the official page may change its process. A release record and a property record answer different questions. One shows the custody event; the other identifies control and return of an item.

ICE Transfers from Wallowa Custody

A local custody episode can end through delivery to ICE, but no official source found a Wallowa County ICE detention facility or contract. Use this route only if the Wallowa or Union record identifies an immigration hold or receiving agency. A county roster disappearance alone is not evidence of such a transfer.

ICE’s official locator can include eligible current detainees and people released from ICE custody within the prior 60 days. That limited historical window can help after a documented transfer. It does not establish the result of the Wallowa criminal case, and its later silence does not prove what happened. Use the Wallowa court record for the local case and ICE records for immigration custody.

When an immigration transfer is documented, preserve the Wallowa booking or case number, Union inmate number, release time, hold disposition, and receiving-agency wording. Those details connect records that use different identifiers. ICE permits a search by a nine-digit A-number with country of birth or by biographical details, but the county agencies may not display that federal identifier publicly. If the recent locator window no longer helps, request the ICE detention and release record through FOIA rather than inferring a community release.

A court order can precede the physical processing time recorded by the Sheriff or jail. Reconcile both sources. The court proves what was ordered; the custody record proves when the holding agency acted and where the person went. If a docket entry is too short to answer the question, request the actual order from Wallowa Circuit Court.
